Musique et incongruité : l’exemple du théâtre instrumental de Mauricio Kagel
Abstract
This article shows how Argentine composer Mauricio Kagel incorporated incongruity as a key element of his aesthetic, defying convention and opening up new artistic perspectives. Kagel created a fusion between music and theater, which he calls "instrumental theater". In his works, incongruity manifests itself in many ways, whether through unusual instrumental gestures, strange stage behaviors or surprising interactions between musicians, as we shall see through an analytical presentation of String Quartet No. 1 and Swei-Mann-Orchester.
