Abstract

Vocal sounds in contemporary British art are less a novelty derived from the greater variety of mediums used by artists today than a return to source. From Conversation Pieces to video art, voices have both motivated creative impulses and allowed for a dialogue between different moments of the history of art. David Goldblatt's definition of ventriloquy is introduced here as a notion which allows for an understanding of the different forms voice can take.
